Ioan Mihnea Stefan was born in Târgoviște, Romania, and started karting at four years old. After success in national and international karting, he moved into single-seaters through the 2012 Formula BMW Talent Cup, finishing third in the season finale.
Following his return to international competition in the Ligier European Series, Stefan joined Team Virage for 2023. Seven victories and eight podiums carried the number 48 Ligier JS P4 to the championship. He then stepped up to LMP3 machinery in the Asian Le Mans Series and Michelin Le Mans Cup.
